Vera's Dad Tim works for Waste Management!

Tim trains drivers for these trucks. He talked to us about the trucks and their jobs.
The children from R14 invited us to come and share in the talk and watch how the truck lifts the bin.

These trucks pick up 22 tonnes a day and there are 12 trucks plus all the other commercial bins. Some of the rubbish can be recycled like wood for playgrounds, compost for gardens.

And away we go

Such excitement!

Pakuranga Library Roadshow

The Librarians from Pakuranga Library came to school today to inspire us to use all of the wonderful library services that are free for us all to use and just down the road!

They demonstrated how to use books with augamented reality like i-dinosaur where the book comes alive by projecting images from the book in front of you using your camera on your iPad.
Also there are lots of activities at the Libraries in the holidays so check out their programme.
If you have a favourite author tell a Librarian and they will find similar authors for you to try out!

Jacob participated in acting and reading a part in a play. He was called Slim!

Whaea Tearani, Tiana, Kylie and Matua Jimmy have led our tamariki beautifully and thank you to our whanau for getting us to school for our practices.

Where are we on our Enviro journey?

Mrs Daniel visited today. She was so impressed with all the wonderful planting & reusing for wearable arts, we've been doing, as part of our 3R's topic. She also said the worms we've been looking after are thriving. Room 20 are Enviro stars!

As part of our enviro day we visted the new sculptures that have been made using recycled materials. They're awesome! We also tied up the peas in the edible garden and weeded the seedlings in the shade house.

We're looking forward to eating some of our crops next term.

Vector teaches us about safety around electricity

Talk to your child about all the ways to avoid electrical hazards in your home and outside.

Making and trialling parachutes

After reading one of our reading group's texts 'How to make a parachute' some children have made their own and tried it out today.

Reading non fiction books gives us all new learning experiences and teaches us about topics we would like to explore. This book helped us to find something to do with the pile of soft plastic bags, and unwanted little toys that others have outgrown.
