Happy Divali to all!

Did you notice we have changed our wall paper?
There is a Rangoli pattern there now. Do you know what that is?
Where would you find one at this time of year?
They are very beautiful and are part of the Divali celebrations some Sunnyhills' School families will be taking part in this weekend.
We are going to make some Rangoli patterns of our own in the next week - they will beautify our classroom!

Tinker Time with the Osmos coding

Coding has now been added to our apps. Lots of discussion and forward thinking is needed to solve these problems. Lateral thinking and perseverance are really important in Room 20!

Look at Joshua and see his feeling of success!

Inspired by the Beijing Water Cube! Maths and Technology join forces in this Storm of Ideas!

One of the sports stadiums we looked at was the Water Cube in Beijing which was built for the Beijing Olympics Aquatics. We talked about why the Architect chose to design the building like this. What does it remind you of? Water, molecules, ice, bubbles, floating - use your imagination!

So we set about making our own mini stadium using paper, card, sellotape and a secret material to wrap it all up in!

The shape of our stadium was begun with a hexagonal base. Then we had to roll paper to make cylinders. Next we chose the triangular frame shape to hold our wall up as we noticed the beams in our classroom were triangles so we decided they must be the strongest shape.

So here is the frame work all sturdy and strong!

The Sunnyhills Star News! The Weather!

Today we had Weather Reports using our Interactive Whiteboard.

Chloe T and Chloe C and Krish wrote the day, date and year on the laptop and then a few people had a first go at choosing the weather on the slide show.

Olivia and Jacob dressed up a bit to get into 'character'! Do you agree with Weather Reporters today? Did they get it right?

Room 20 see if you can find out what the weather report will be for Tuesday and share it with us tomorrow.
When we have had time to practice what to say and what to include in our Weather Reports we will record them for you. Watch out TVNZ!!

Literacy Week Begins!

Roald Dahl wrote many children's story books which have been read all over the world. We have been reading George's Marvellous Medicine. Today we made our own "medicine" with the help of Brodie's Mum, Ms Medland and Jessica's Dad, Mr Armstrong. Thank you both for giving Mrs Trembath a hand!

What do you see we have used to make George's Medicine for his Grandma?

Which flag would you choose if you had the chance to vote?

Water water everywhere...

Did you know that a person who studies water is called a Hydrologist!

Thank you Mrs Long for being our recorder today as we brainstormed our ideas about water!

The Water Molecule Cheer:
Give me an H!
Give me a 2!
Give me an O!
What does that spell?
H2O!
When atoms join together they form molecules. A water molecule is made up of 2 Hydrogen atoms and 1 Oxygen atom. Atoms are teeny tiny building blocks that you can't see. Water molecules lock into position when they freeze...brrr!
