Looking Great Fabulous Amazing Fantastic Everyone!

Dear Families for those of you who are busy and find it tricky to visit our room in person, this is what Room 20 is looking like right now!
Soon we have to take everything down for the end of the year so we thought we would show you all now!

Our Class Dojos. We are all different and we appreciate that fact when we are learning and working together. We each designed our own character and wrote the speech bubble to describe what our character is like.

These are our camouflaged Skinks and Stick Insects - can you find them? What are their Adaptations to their Environment or Habitat?

Look at this herd of Zebras! The idea was to learn how to paint a sunset background and show silhouettes with the trees. And then the Zebra is in the front or the foreground. The black and white patterning links well into maths and was a challenge to those that are used to patterning only from left to right! Black tissue paper was added to enhance the 3-D illusion.

Look at these glorious giraffes! Hands on construction is always fun and it's a great way to recycle found objects. We have used giraffes as a subject for Maths Inquiry learning  about estimation and measuring height.

Our Epic Enviro BreakOut

Today Room 20 persevered and problem solved to complete the Enviro BreakOut with Mrs Daniel. Here's what they said about it:

"We were finding the clues. I liked the part when we wrote them down, cause we were reading carefully". Siena

"It was epic!" Hayden

"I liked finding the clues, because it felt like finding treasure. I used the alphabet to crack the code. I counted to H and it was 8. I figured it out." Dean

"You have to use your brain, 'cause it is a riddle." Olivia

"It was fun to run around in the fresh air." Brodie

"You have to work hard to find the answers." Jessica

"We were looking behind trees and bushes." Chloe C

I felt fun and excited. I couldn't wait til we found the last clue." Jacob

I enjoyed it, because when i got to the last one I felt happy because i did all of them." Joshua

Next we made delicious versions of Marvellous Medicine with Soda, Vanilla Ice Cream and a sprinkling of marshmallows!

A drop of yellow or green food colouring for that extra sparkle!

Delicious!!

Literacy Week Begins!

Roald Dahl wrote many children's story books which have been read all over the world. We have been reading George's Marvellous Medicine. Today we made our own "medicine" with the help of Brodie's Mum, Ms Medland and Jessica's Dad, Mr Armstrong. Thank you both for giving Mrs Trembath a hand!

What do you see we have used to make George's Medicine for his Grandma?

Hey there Room 20 looks like we might have a frog!

Thanks to Brodie and Carolyn at lunchtime on Friday for helping me find some rocks because look what has happened today at my house!

One of our froglets needs air to breath now as it's lungs have grown and the gills are no longer there to enable it to breath under water!
Stones in the water mean the froglet can climb up out of the water.

Enviro Adventures with Mrs Daniel

As part of our second Enviro Day, Room 20 set off on an "Alphabet Nature Hunt" all around the school. While we explored and recorded our findings the most wonderful thing happened; without prompting the children started picking up litter as we went. We created quite the pile! The collection of mainly food wrappers led to a discussion about naked lunches,

as a way of reducing rubbish at school. Tino pai Room 20! You're enviro stars.

How does a tadpole swim? Can you spot the legs?

We wonder if other liquids can float on water? Can air float on water?

We made a wonderful concoction of water, dye, washing up liquid and cooking oil! We mixed it up and made it bubble as we swished it around with a paint brush! Some brave people blew bubbles with straws.

We watched to see what would happen. We made our own observations about what floated on the top, what sunk and what mixed and dissolved in the water. Then we carefully lay paper across the top to make a print of the floating ingredients! What do you think was floating on the top? Why? We are going to explore these questions in class.
