Gabriel from Kiwi Tennis arrived today and started teaching us tennis skills.
He will coach us for the next 4 weeks so remember your PE uniform on Thursdays please!
Gabriel is one of the experienced coaches that also coach at Sunnyhills Tennis Club. Gabriel is all the way from Spain so we hope to teach him about our country too.
Welcome to Room 20's blog for 2016. We are a class of energetic Year Two and Three learners and our teacher is Mrs Trembath.

2016 Sports Day at Sunnyhills! The weather behaved and we all had a super day!
8 year olds lining up! |
7 year olds lining up! |
So glad you have remembered your hats! |
Ready to jump, run and try our best! |
Such energy girls! |
At the end of the day there were finals for all of the sprint races and there were lots of Room 20 children in those races! Fantastic fitness and such a great mindset for competitive racing today! |
Hoiho is Mrs Trembath's House and we all cheered our loudest! The Senior relays were so exciting to watch. I know there were nervous runners out there. |
Hoiho Senior Girls came 1st and we were so proud! |
The boys' relay was very competitive and Hoiho came 3rd - well done boys for stepping up to represent us, I know you practiced a lot during the days leading up to the Sports Day. |
Room 20 really enjoyed their day - they were excited and energised. Congratulations to you all for being great sports people and encouraging each other at all times! |

Happy Divali to all!
Did you notice we have changed our wall paper?
There is a Rangoli pattern there now. Do you know what that is?
Where would you find one at this time of year?
They are very beautiful and are part of the Divali celebrations some Sunnyhills' School families will be taking part in this weekend.
We are going to make some Rangoli patterns of our own in the next week - they will beautify our classroom!

Thank you to our generous Room 20 whanau for the 44 cans going to the City Mission this week! Our School has donated over 1000 cans - thank you!
Black Out Day was not only to mark the New Zealand athletes competing in the Rio 2016 Olympic Games but it was also to raise awareness of those less fortunate than ourselves by taking part in our Two-can Day (toucans are birds native to Brazil). Winter can be cold and hard on some people in the wider Auckland Community and we need to learn to think of others besides ourselves.

Art from South America a collaboration of artists
How does the art make you feel? What do different colours make you feel?
What is it? Room 20 had lots of interesting and observant comments to share. Art is different things to different people. Art makes you wonder and question the space around you.

Cold weather means warm uniform!
If you would like to swap shoes for slippers in the classroom you are most welcome. Can you guess who wears these slippers?

Enviro Adventures with Mrs Daniel
As part of our second Enviro Day, Room 20 set off on an "Alphabet Nature Hunt" all around the school. While we explored and recorded our findings the most wonderful thing happened; without prompting the children started picking up litter as we went. We created quite the pile! The collection of mainly food wrappers led to a discussion about naked lunches,

Kiwi sports on Thursdays with Mrs Grant!
Learning to work as a team and letting each person have a go is really important in Team 20! How long do you think each team could keep the balloon off the ground AND still hold hands?? Try it as a family at home!
